More people than ever before aged 50 and over are being diagnosed with HIV, and more people with HIV are living longer. In the UK more than a third of people living with HIV in the UK are over 50, and the figure is rising.
UK-based HIV/AIDS charity The Terrence Higgins Trust has published a new report on HIV and ageing called Uncharted Territory: a report into the first generation growing older with HIV, which shows how poverty is having a major impact on this community. Access to quality social and health care, discrimination and isolation are significant concerns for many.
