USA: More States To Harass Trans* Community With “Bathroom Bills”

The harassment of the trans* community continues, as reactionary politicians continue to push so-called “bathroom bills”.

So far this year (and we’re only a few weeks into 2017), 8 states – Alabama, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington – have prefiled or introduced legislation that would restrict access to multiuser restrooms, locker rooms, and other sex-segregated facilities on the basis of a definition of sex or gender consistent with sex assigned at birth or “biological sex.”

This isn’t particularly Trump-related, and it’s been a growing trend.  There were attempts to introduce similar laws in 19 states in 2016, although only North Carolina succeeded in enacting one.

The National Conference of State Legislatures has a  useful guide to what individual states are planning.
